Irvine Park
& Zoo
Bridgewater Avenue,
Chippewa Falls
(715) 723-0051
In 1906 William Irvine had a dream
to establish a reserve that would enhance and protect
the Chippewa Valley environment. Mr. Irvine then donated
a number of acres to the city for this purpose. The
size of the park has grown throughout
the years and is now 318 acres. It has been a recreational
resource of pride for Chippewa Falls residents and visitors
for many years.
Irvine Park & Zoo is a 300
acre park home to bobcats, cougar, black bears, monkeys,
white-tailed deer, buffalo, many different bird species
and other wildlife. During the summer months there is
a red barn full of farm animals for the public to enjoy.
A petting zoo is open from 10-6pm (depending on
volunteer availability).
Also located in the park is the
Sunny Valley School House built in 1903. Across from
the school is the Norwegian Log Home that is over 100
years old. Open for tours Memorial Day through Labor
day from 1-5pm Sundays and holidays.
The
Friends of Irvine Park & Zoo are looking for
donations for building a new exhibit complex for the
bobcats, cougar, and black bears. Their
outdated cages are obsolet and must be replaced to ensure
the humane containment of the animals placed there.
