UW-Madison Extension to Host Soil, Nitrogen, and Irrigation Management Field Day in Chippewa County

Farmers, crop advisers, agribusiness professionals, conservation leaders, and community members are invited to attend the Soil, Nitrogen, and Irrigation Management Field Day on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. north of Chippewa Falls.

The field day is part of the Nitrogen Optimization Pilot Project and will feature presentations from University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension specialists and local conservation partners on innovative approaches to nutrient management, irrigation efficiency, soil conservation, and water quality protection.

The event will be held at the field site located at 44.960483, -91.356770, on Seymour Cray Boulevard, directly across from Lake View Drive.

Participants will hear from experts on several timely agricultural topics, including:

• Increasing Irrigation and Fertigation Efficiency
  Presented by Dr. Mallika Nocco, Extension Agricultural Water Management Specialist, UW-Madison
• Managing to Keep Nutrients Out of the Water
  Presented by Dr. Steven Hall, Extension Agriculture Water Quality Specialist, UW-Madison
• Impact of Soil Conservation Practices on the Landscape
  Presented by Todd Prill, Extension Agricultural Water Outreach Specialist, UW-Madison
• Insights from Local On-Farm Nitrogen Application Research
  Presented by Jerry Clark, Extension Regional Crops and Soils Educator, UW-Madison
• Chippewa Valley Farmer-Led Watershed Update
  Presented by Becky Brathal, Conservation Coordinator, Wisconsin Farmers Union

The program will provide attendees with practical information and research-based recommendations to help improve nutrient use efficiency, protect water resources, and strengthen long-term farm sustainability.

Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) credits will be available for eligible participants.
