Road Construction Updates - 6.2.2026

2026 Construction on WIS 124:

STH 124: Duncan Creek Bridge to County S

  • Work scheduled to begin April 13 and is scheduled to be completed Mid-June.
  • Resurfacing WIS 124 from Duncan Creek Bridge (bridge at Leinie’s) to CTH S
  • Will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging for paving.

STH 124 - Elm Street to CTH S

April 13th – June 17th

Description: Removals, Milling, Grading, Aggregate, Concrete Pavement, Asphalt Pavement, Culvert Pipe, Curb and Gutter, Concrete Sidewalk, Erosion Control, Traffic Control, Pavement Marking and Restoration

Traffic impacts:

  • Shoulder closures from Bridgewater Ave to 3rd Flagging operations present. Sidewalk closures with pedestrian detours provided. Stage 2 of pedestrian accommodation is now in effect. Lane shift at Duncan Creek Bridge for bridge joint repair. Use caution on loose gravel patch just North of 136th St where culvert was replaced. Brief single lane traffic with flagging operations during active culvert replacement just South of CTH S.

2026 US 53 pavement replacement project:

US 53, 40th Avenue to County B

Construction in the third year of a multiyear pavement replacement project on US 53 in Chippewa County from 40th Avenue in Lake Hallie to County B in Tilden resumed Monday, March 2 and is scheduled to be completed in Late June.

Construction in 2026 includes:

  • Replacing the pavement on southbound US 53 south of County N
  • Widening the shoulder on the ramp from Business 29/County X to southbound US 53
  • Placing polymer overlays on the southbound US 53 bridges over the Chippewa River and BUS 29/County X
  • Replacing guardrail
  • Completing culvert work
  • Building permanent maintenance crossovers
  • Installing new pavement markings and shoulder rumble strips

 

During construction in 2026, US 53 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane and interchange ramp closures, including the following:

  • The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph where there are lane closures.
  • The ramps at the US 53/Business 29/County X interchange will be closed June 8 and 9.
  • Northbound US 53 from 40th Avenue to County Q.
  • Southbound US 53 from County S to 40th Avenue.
  • The ramp from southbound US 53 to BUS 29/County X and ramps on and off northbound US 53 at the BUS 29/County X interchange will be closed intermittently from March 2 to late June.

 

WIS 29, 320th Street to Koser Avenue

Resurfacing WIS 29 from 320th Street east of Boyd in Chippewa County to Koser Avenue west of Thorp in Clark County.

Construction is scheduled to begin May 11th and be completed by Mid-September.

During construction, WIS 29 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures in both directions.

 

City of Chippewa Falls Construction Projects

Chippewa Street Project (Wisconsin Street to Summit Avenue)

The Chippewa Street reconstruction project includes underground utility work (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main), curb and gutter, street surface and driveways.

Xcel Energy is currently on-site to replace gas mains and services prior to Haas Sons, Inc. beginning the street project. Haas Sons, Inc. anticipates starting the street project the week of June 1st, pending weather. The project will begin with roadway removals. Underground utility work will potentially begin towards the end the week. They plan to begin utility work in the block between Wisconsin Street and Linden Street.

Miles Street Project (Terrill Street to Wheaton Street)

The Miles Street reconstruction project includes underground utility work (storm sewer, water services, sanitary services), curb and gutter, street surface, sidewalk and driveways.

Xcel Energy plans to be on-site beginning the first week of June to replace gas mains and services prior to Haas Sons, Inc. beginning the street project. Haas Sons, Inc. anticipates starting the street project the week of June 22nd, pending weather, and have the project completed prior to the school year starting. Letters will be sent out to property owners in the coming weeks with additional information.

Willow Street Project (Mansir Street to Albert Street)

The Willow Street reconstruction project includes underground utility work (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main), curb and gutter, street surface, sidewalk, and driveways.

Xcel Energy plans to be on-site in late June to replace gas mains and services prior to Haas Sons, Inc. beginning the street project. Haas Sons, Inc. anticipates starting the street project in late July, pending weather. Letters will be sent out to property owners in the coming weeks with additional information.
