Sanford Health to share perspectives on AI, workforce transformation and the future of care delivery at Reuters Digital Health Summit

Sanford Health leaders will join healthcare executives, policymakers and technology innovators from across the country at Reuters Digital Health Summit May 20 – 21 in Chicago, to discuss how health systems are responsibly scaling AI and digital innovation to improve patient care, workforce sustainability and operational performance.

Tommy Ibrahim, M.D., executive vice president and chief transformation officer at Sanford Health, will join a fireside chat, The Future We Choose: Defining the Next Chapter of Digital Health. Ibrahim will discuss how Sanford Health is redesigning care delivery by leveraging AI and digital innovation to advance more connected, data-driven and patient-centered care across rural America.

“Transformation is ultimately about rethinking how care is delivered — not simply implementing new technology,” Ibrahim said. “At Sanford Health, we’re taking a disciplined, problem-first approach to scaling AI in ways that expand access, support our workforce, improve affordability and drive better outcomes for the patients and communities we serve.”

David Newman, M.D., chief medical officer for virtual care at Sanford Health, will join an executive panel discussion entitled, The Digital Health Mandate – Leading with Urgency, Clarity and Accountability.  Newman will share how Sanford is harnessing AI tools and virtual care to strengthen the patient experience.“Healthcare is at an inflection point, especially in rural America, where AI and virtual care are rapidly reshaping expectations around access, responsiveness and convenience,” Newman said. “We’re moving beyond the hype phase of digital health and into the real work of operationalizing these tools in ways that reduce friction for clinicians and improve the patient experience.”

Erica DeBoer, senior vice president, chief nursing officer at Sanford Health, will join a panel discussion, entitled Navigate Change Management via AI and Digital Solutions to Improve Organizational Adaptability. DeBoer will discuss Sanford Health’s virtual nursing journey and how the organization is partnering closely with frontline teams to co-design technology-enabled workflows that strengthen patient care, reduce administrative burden and create more sustainable nursing roles. DeBoer will also speak during a Women in Healthcare Community Networking Lunch during the conference.

“Trust is foundational to every part of digital transformation in healthcare,” DeBoer said. “Our virtual nursing model has been built in close partnership with our frontline teams. We are focused on leveraging the brilliance at the bedside to improve patient safety, reduce administrative burden and create new opportunities for nurses to rethink how care is delivered while continuing to contribute in meaningful ways.”
